Elle permettait aux gardes de communiquer avec les habitants depuis les hauteurs par des signaux de fum\u00e9e et le son des cloches le jour, et on y allumait des feux de bois durant la nuit. C\u2019est depuis les tours de Sant Sebasti\u00e0 de la Guarda (XV<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle) et de Calella (1597) que l\u2019on d\u00e9tectait les attaques de corsaires sur la c\u00f4te de Palafrugell\u00a0; un garde y faisait constamment le guet, c\u2019\u00e9tait \u00e0 lui de transmettre les informations jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la plaine de l\u2019Empord\u00e0.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Par son emplacement, la tour de Calella \u00e9tait un point strat\u00e9gique pour le contr\u00f4le des baies de Llafranc et de Calella et c\u2019\u00e9tait la seule tour arm\u00e9e de la commune : elle \u00e9tait munie des canons dispos\u00e9 sur l\u2019espace plat qui donne sur la mer. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9mont\u00e9 en 1782, le nombre d\u2019attaques de pirates ayant consid\u00e9rablement diminu\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>La tour a \u00e9galement servi de prison jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la Guerre civile.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 la fin du XIX<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, une maison a \u00e9t\u00e9 construite.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TOUR DE CALELLA &nbsp; Cette ancienne tour de d\u00e9fense formait autrefois partie d\u2019un syst\u00e8me de surveillance complexe.
