Un b\u00e2timent couvert a donc \u00e9t\u00e9 construit pr\u00e8s de l\u2019\u00e9glise pour l\u2019accueillir. C\u2019est l\u2019architecte\u00a0Mart\u00ed Sureda i Vila (1866-1947) qui s\u2019est charg\u00e9 de ce projet, inaugur\u00e9 en 1901.<\/p>\n<p>Dans un premier temps, le march\u00e9 \u00e9tait ouvert \u00e0 tous les commerces, mais \u00e9tant donn\u00e9 la capacit\u00e9 du b\u00e2timent, il a fallu limiter son usage \u00e0 la vente de viande et de volaille, et c\u2019est toujours le cas aujourd\u2019hui.<\/p>\n<p>Ce nouveau march\u00e9 \u00e9tait l\u2019un des premiers march\u00e9s couverts de la province de G\u00e9rone. Il \u00e9tait particuli\u00e8rement fonctionnel. L\u2019hygi\u00e8ne a \u00e9t\u00e9 trait\u00e9 comme une priorit\u00e9, et on a notamment soign\u00e9 la lumi\u00e8re et la ventilation de l\u2019espace int\u00e9rieur par de grandes ouvertures, mais aussi par sa toiture double et un syst\u00e8me d\u2019\u00e9vacuation des eaux us\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<p>Le march\u00e9 consacr\u00e9 au poisson a \u00e9t\u00e9 construit au cours des ann\u00e9es 1960 sur le terrain qui recevait autrefois l\u2019ancienne mairie.
