En el a\u00f1o 1895, se consider\u00f3 necesario cambiarlo de ubicaci\u00f3n y se construy\u00f3 un edificio cubierto en un solar junto a la iglesia. Lo dise\u00f1\u00f3 el arquitecto Mart\u00ed Sureda i Vila (1866-1947) y se inaugur\u00f3 en 1901.<\/p>\n<p>En un primer momento, el mercado cubierto acog\u00eda todos los puestos, pero dada la capacidad del edificio, se acab\u00f3 dedicando a la carne y a las aves de corral, tal y como sigue siendo en la actualidad.<\/p>\n<p>El nuevo mercado fue de los primeros en estar cubiertos de la provincia de Girona. Destacaba por su funcionalidad. Se prioriz\u00f3 el factor higi\u00e9nico mediante una iluminaci\u00f3n y una ventilaci\u00f3n del espacio interior a trav\u00e9s de amplias aberturas, un sistema de doble cubierta y la canalizaci\u00f3n de las aguas residuales.<\/p>\n<p>En la d\u00e9cada de los sesenta del siglo pasado, se construy\u00f3 el mercado del pescado en el solar que qued\u00f3 tras el derribo del antiguo ayuntamiento.
