In the 19th century, the presence of immigrants from Palafrugell in America increased (we might especially mention the philanthropist Josep Torres Jonama) and Cuba and Argentina were the main destinations; during the Cuban War of 1898, several residents were embarked to an undesired war.<\/p>\n<p>The Bassa Rocas are the family from the Empord\u00e0 with strong religious convictions and Catalanist roots who in distant America found the instruments to become defenders of the Catalan culture and language to the media and different Catalan entities in Argentina.
